Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD helped and treated with CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy at the Carterton Therapy Practice providing effective brief therapy for OCD using CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder where a person has recurrent and unwanted ideas or impulses (called obsessions) and an urge or compulsion to do something to relieve the discomfort caused by the obsession. The obsessive thoughts range from the idea of losing control, to themes surrounding religion or keeping things or parts of one's body clean all the time.

Compulsions are behaviours that help reduce the anxiety surrounding the obsessions, such as doing things in a certain order or maybe keeping things in order or neat and tidy for instance. Most people (90%) who have OCD have both obsessions and compulsions. The thoughts and behaviours a person with OCD has are senseless, repetitive, distressing, and sometimes harmful.

"A person suffering with OCD may avoid situations in which they might have to confront their obsessions. Most people (90%) who have OCD have both obsessions and compulsions."

The degree to which this condition can interfere with daily living ... varies. Some people are barely bothered, while others find the obsessions and compulsions to be profoundly traumatic and spend much time each day in compulsive actions.

Other symptoms

Depression or other anxiety disorders may accompany OCD, as well as eating disorders. In addition, a person suffering with OCD may avoid situations in which they might have to confront their obsessions, or they may try unsuccessfully to use alcohol or drugs to calm themselves.

CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy can help you to resolve the emotional conflicts that are causing the problem. These are nothing more than bottled up emotions and so once found and released, the symptom itself then dissolves.
